On Friday 2nd of November at the Westin Sydney Grand Ballroom, 20 industry champions from Sydney’s marketing, media and advertising industries once again stepped out of the office and into the ring, standing toe-to-toe with a peer at the sold-out black-tie gala event in front of over 700 of their closest friends, family and colleagues.
Former Industry Champion Matt ‘THE BIG RIGG’ De Groot (Nova), stepped back into the ring, this time donning a tux and mic to MC the event and introduce the first fight of the night - Tess ‘MAD DOG MURPHY’ (Carat) fighting in the red corner vs Alice ‘THE LUNCH LADY’ Miller in the blue corner (Cadreon). The audience were on the edge of their seats until the final knockout punch (pun intended) from Sam ‘KO’ Keogh (JCDecaux) in the red corner against Sam ‘SMACK’ Down (DXGlobal) in the blue corner.
“It’s been an incredible three months, seeing the transformation of the fighters from orientation to the industry champions that fought on the night is outstanding” said Rich Jones (Kreate), Pitch2Punch 2018 Promoter. “Everyone should be very proud of themselves.”
After 12 weeks of that infamous early morning and late night Pitch2Punch training, adrenalin was pumping as the fighters entered the room, all in support of smashing the stigma surrounding mental health, for Pitch2Punch’s new 2018 charity partner - batyr.
The intimidation tactics started early with names like Ruth ‘RUTHLESS’ Cosgrave (Qantcast), Rachel ‘THE LION’ Andrada (MediaCom), Isabella ‘THE NOTORIOUS R.I.G’ Rigg (Traffik Group), Diahann ‘D-MUNNY’ Munro (MediaCom), David ‘NITE THUG’ Shen (Cadreon), James ‘THE BRIJID BUENO’ Lloyd (Brijid), Alex ‘THE ANNIHILATOR’ Jaksetic (MediaCom), Cameron ‘THE SLEEPER’ Chu (UM), Ella ‘STING LIKE’ McKee (Junkee Media), Lucy ‘WRECKING’ Bowles (phd), Nick ‘BIG BAD BOBO’ Robins (Macquarie Media), Ben ‘JABBER THE’ Hutton (ZIFF DAVIS AU) and James ‘WHIPLASH’ Whitbread (Crimtan).
A heavyweight evening and spectacular effort from all the fighters, a special congratulations goes to ‘FURIOUS’ Fraser Johnston (Havas) for Best Overall Fighter and to Nima ‘PERSIAN PAPI’ Mirzarazi (Val Morgan Outdoor) vs Bryan ‘THE WOLF’ Blackman (360 DMG) for Fight of The Night.
The auction and raffle on the evening raised an additional $10,000 for batyr, but if you’re still wanting to get off the ropes and donate please click here.
