Even for the most avid social media users, beginning to think about how you can use social media to grow your business can be overwhelming and easily moved to the bottom of your to-do list.
With over 18 million Australians active on social media, that’s 71% of our total population, there’s a whole lot of Australians out there who use social media just waiting to become potential customers and clients!
To make the process a little bit less overwhelming Kreate’s Social Media team have pulled together our top tips to growing and enhancing your social media presence.
Ask yourself some questions!
Before you even begin to start planning and posting on social media – there’s a couple of key questions you need to ask yourself and your business. These questions will really help you determine why you’re creating social media channels for your business and will help kickstart your journey.
What am I trying to achieve?
Who do I want to talk to and what do they want to see?
What social media channels can I achieve this on?
What is my brand’s look and feel?
What kind of content do I want to share across my platforms and what do I want to talk about?
What content do I already have and want content do I need to start creating?
Plan your content
One of our top tips in using social media for your business, and even for growing your personal brand, is to plan your content! Whilst the temptation to sporadically post whenever you have content is tempting, one of the best things you can do for your social media channel is plan out your content in advance.
Planning out when you are going to post is also a great way to understand how much content you actually have and establish where there are any gaps – if you’ve got a lot of blanks coming up, it might be time to book a photographer (you can do this with Kreate if you wish!) to create some updated photos.
Understand your analytics
Our next tip is to understand your analytics and results. These features that are provided to you by your social media platforms should be your bible and have a big impact on your content.
It can be a little bit of trial and error when perfecting your social media content strategy but after about two months of posting you should have a pretty clear idea when your audience is active and what kind of content they respond well to.
Share more on Instagram stories
Whilst it’s not a new feature on Instagram, Instagram Stories are often really underutilised by businesses. After softly launching way back in 2016, now over 500 million people worldwide use Instagram stories every day.
Think about your own social media habits, do you spend more time scrolling through your feed? Or do you just jump onto Instagram and watch stories?
Stories are a great way to share little bite-sized pieces of content that might not necessarily be “feed-worthy” but are still great pieces of content that you want to share with your audience.
Make your stories engaging! This in turn will help the algorithm make sure that your stories are always shown to your followers.
Perfect your profile!
Perfecting your profile is a really simple and easy way to help potential customers and clients contact you and engage with your business.
Make sure you are contactable! There’s nothing worse than finding a great new business and not having a way to get in touch with them.
Create a compelling description. Maximising your description will allow potential new business opportunities to find out what you do and who you are.
Utilise the shop function. If you sell physical products, then Instagram’s shop feature is your best friend!
Utilise the highlights function on Instagram. Did you know that your stories don’t just disappear after 24 hours? You can capture those great little pieces of content and home them on your profile forever.
To go above and beyond, create some on-brand covers for your highlights to complete the look.
Engage with your audience
So, now you’ve planned your social media content into a content calendar, you understand your analytics, you’re sharing stories and you’ve perfected your profile – what’s next?
Our final tip is to regularly engage with your audience. Take the time to reply to people who have commented on your posts, comment on posts they’ve recently shared and build a real connection with your audience.
