Kreate at Home - Edition #3

Kreate has been updating our nation-wide team of Event Staff, Brand Ambassadors and Field Promotional Staff with regular 'at home' updates. Each fortnight we share positive information about things to do at home, opportunities to learn, create or explore - from the safety of home. Our team from across Australia are contributing stories, funny videos or examples of the ways that they are adapting to this situation - directly impacting all of us in the events, experiential and activations space.


This week, our guest editor is Tom Kell - Kreate's resident Producer, over to Tom:


Hello Kreate family!



Tom Kell here, guest editing this edition of Kreate at Home. This will be the first time I have spoken with many of you since live activity was put on hold, so I want to say I hope you are all keeping well and I can't wait to get back to work with you when the dust settles.


Slowly but surely, the country is opening back up – like the first blossoms of spring emerging after a cold winter. We’re starting to see a boost of optimism and confidence as we see cafes and restaurants open their doors and fill with customers. Now, with cultural institutions open from June 1st as well, we are getting the strongest sense yet that life is returning to normal, albeit this ‘new normal’ everyone is talking about!


Included below are some choice updates on this continuing ‘blossoming’. We are in constant talks with venue managers as to the timeline for recommencing on-the-ground activities in shopping centres, supermarkets, bottle stores and more. In the meantime, stay safe and stay positive.

THE BIENNALE RETURNS


The 22nd Biennale of Sydney Will Reopen Its Citywide Arts Festival in June. The Biennale, which closed just ten days after its grand opening in March, will be kicking off (again) from June 16th following the reopening of NSW art galleries, museums and libraries on June 1st.


Works from over 100 artists will descend on The Art Gallery of NSW, the MCA, Cockatoo Island and Campbelltown Arts Centre for an impressive program exploring the First Nations sovereignty and trauma. Walking around our treasured cultural institutions absorbing some amazing art, sounds good to us.


MARKETS APLENTY


Our neighbours to the North also saw restrictions ease earlier this week, with up to 20 people able to gather at home, museums, galleries, theatres, gyms, sports clubs and more. An envious array of markets have re-launched to cater to your food, fashion and bric-a-brac appetites, includingDavies Park Market,Kelvin Grove Village Marketand Jan Powers Farmers Market.


Stage 2 restrictions-easing kicks in this Friday 5th June, with up to 20 people permitted per defined area in cafes, pubs and bars. We advise booking now to save yourself a seat!


DRIVING INNOVATION

Sometimes, we look to the past for inspiration on how to move forward! This week sees the reopening of Blacktown’s iconic Skyline Drive-In Cinema. Meanwhile,  Brisbane’s Yatala Drive-In and Melbourne’s Lunar Drive-In lit up their screens earlier this month. In a similar vein, Wollongong band Hockey Dad are putting on a drive-in concert at Bulli Showground on Friday 31st July. Shall be interesting to see what other entertenment forms embrace the drive-in format!

COOKIN' UP SOMETHIN' GOOD

With this pandemic forcing the doors shut on our favourite eating establishments, many well-known Australian restaurateurs took to social media to show us how to recreate some of their culinary masterpieces. Some of my favourites over the last few months have been Tal Buchnik’s Middle-Eastern dinners, Orazio D’Elia’s Orecchiette alla Barese, Dan Hong’s famous Cheeseburger Spring Rolls and, of course, Nat’s What I Reckon’s expletive-filled End Of Days Bolognese.

LEAVE IT (PARTLY) TO THE PROFESSIONALS 

For when home cooking requires that extra element of panache. Providoor is a newly launched food delivery platform developed by, and working in partnership with, some of Melbourne's most celebrated restaurants. It's goal is to 'ditch the sweaty takeaway': preparing and delivering partially-prepared meals that are completed at home.  "What’s the point of sending out high-quality restaurant food", creator Shane Delia explains, "if it’s going to be put in a tin foil container and left at the bottom of some biker’s backpack?" Providoor launches in Melbourne Monday 1st June with Cumulus Inc., Supernormal, Sunda, Movida, Delis's own Maha, and many more on the roster. READING RECOMMENDATION 



The Dutch House by Ann Patchett is an atmospheric and evocative story about the complex nature of family that explores betrayal, loyalty and the dysfunctional dynamics that are so intricately laced into familial relationships.

…and going on insanely long walks, including one along Cooks River that went for 20km.
